Hi and welcome to my Blog, my name is Paul Riddle and I live in south Leicestershire, UK. Back in August 2007 my quest began to locate as many local Little Owl territories as possible. The driving force was a reported decline in the uk numbers so I thought I would do my bit and conduct a study in my area. After 7 years and countless hours out in the field I have detected over 200 different sites. With a thirst for a greater understanding of the owls a more comprehensive monitoring and nest box programme then commenced. This also now includes monitoring the local and very sparse population of Barn Owls, please pop back occasionally and catch up with the life and times of my owls and any other wildlife that I come across. I hope you enjoy your visit!!!

Calling it a day......for now?

Because of unforeseen circumstances I have not been able to get out much just recently, in fact these recent changes of events will be hampering my future excursions too! Therefore my posts will be a premium for a while but I am hoping that in time things will get back to normal.

So for now I will leave you with a couple of images of two of the local Little owl juveniles that I was lucky enough to encounter during a rare venture out in my Landrover on Thursday evening.

I will hopefully be back sooner rather than later and posting again about what my local owls are getting up to.

See you all soon!

  11. Hi Paul came across your blog and thought I would just add my own comment about hoping to see more updates soon. I am originally from Leicestershire and still have all my family there and so am a LCFC and Tigers fan as well. If you are ever in Buckinghamshire let me know and I will share you at least one local little owl site that may also have a barn owl depending on the time of year in the same field ;-)

    1. One of my objectives for the future is to see a LO in as many UK counties as possible, so I may well take you up on your kind offer Darrell. Also good to hear from another city/tigers fan, cheers!

  12. Hi Paul,

I was wondering if you were planning on doing an OATT 2014 calendar this year (for next year obviously)?

    Cheers,

    1. Yes another calendar for 2014 is in the plans, the cost of getting them done though has risen so I am searching around for a better deal otherwise they will be too expensive.
