Hi and welcome to my Blog, my name is Paul Riddle and I live in south Leicestershire, UK. Back in August 2007 my quest began to locate as many local Little Owl territories as possible. The driving force was a reported decline in the uk numbers so I thought I would do my bit and conduct a study in my area. After 7 years and countless hours out in the field I have detected over 200 different sites. With a thirst for a greater understanding of the owls a more comprehensive monitoring and nest box programme then commenced. This also now includes monitoring the local and very sparse population of Barn Owls, please pop back occasionally and catch up with the life and times of my owls and any other wildlife that I come across. I hope you enjoy your visit!!!

Dunnock for dinner!

Had the day off work today, I went out mid morning and at the first site I sat quietly in the Landrover waiting for the owls to show, after a lengthy 4 hours the male owl finally showed, and it was well worth the wait as he had brought back dinner for his demanding youngsters, in the form of a............Dunnock!

At the second site of the day the wait was only a matter of minutes, it was also the first time ever that I have seen a pair here! They gave me some really nice close up views whilst they scrambled around a farmers muck heap looking for food.

A cracking day and some images that I am really pleased with, it could have been better though had it not been so drawn out and the fact that I totally messed up a couple of chances of a decent "flight" shot, not to worry though, there is always tomorrow as I have another day off work!
