Hi and welcome to my Blog, my name is Paul Riddle and I live in south Leicestershire, UK. Back in August 2007 my quest began to locate as many local Little Owl territories as possible. The driving force was a reported decline in the uk numbers so I thought I would do my bit and conduct a study in my area. After 7 years and countless hours out in the field I have detected over 200 different sites. With a thirst for a greater understanding of the owls a more comprehensive monitoring and nest box programme then commenced. This also now includes monitoring the local and very sparse population of Barn Owls, please pop back occasionally and catch up with the life and times of my owls and any other wildlife that I come across. I hope you enjoy your visit!!!

Just cruising around.

After last nights near fatality with Daz, tonight I opted not to check out any of my boxes for breeding activity, instead I was just going to have a drive around a few sites to see if any owls were showing.

A distant haystack owl checks me out!

It came a little closer but still too far for any quality images.

Nice views were had of an owl in a roadside tree.

And this owl sat outside its nest hole on that lovely branch.

The light wasn't brilliant for photography tonight but that didn't matter as a few owls were seen and thank goodness there wasn't a ladder in sight!!!

  4. Hi Paul
yes defo helped, ive recently purchased a 50D and am considering that same lens - seems to offer reasonable value given the range.Quality doesn`t appear to be a problem either looking at your pics so i`ll continue saving the pennies!.given my rekindled interest in owls / photography i`ll probably bump into you locally and chat some more.
    Thanks Dean
