Hi and welcome to my Blog, my name is Paul Riddle and I live in south Leicestershire, UK. Back in August 2007 my quest began to locate as many local Little Owl territories as possible. The driving force was a reported decline in the uk numbers so I thought I would do my bit and conduct a study in my area. After 7 years and countless hours out in the field I have detected over 200 different sites. With a thirst for a greater understanding of the owls a more comprehensive monitoring and nest box programme then commenced. This also now includes monitoring the local and very sparse population of Barn Owls, please pop back occasionally and catch up with the life and times of my owls and any other wildlife that I come across. I hope you enjoy your visit!!!

Barn Owl - The clutch size increases.

As can be seen from the latest screen capture (below) things are progressing nicely with the Barn Owls where we have the camera in the box. She has now laid 3 eggs which in itself is brilliant news, but I want more!! I am hoping she can at least repeat last years achievement where she had a second clutch total of........seven eggs!!!.

I'll keep you updated of any significant developments with another post in a few days time, any guesses on how many eggs she will lay in this clutch??

  1. Hey Paul, think of the poor parents! You don't want them knackered before the second brood! How would you like it if someone wished five more kids on you, however wonderful the first two might be! And you know that the weakest would only end up as fodder for their older siblings - Im talking about the owls, not your kids now!!

    Keep us posted mate!

    1. Yes you are quite right Richard, but we need a boost in their numbers after the bad winter took its toll. I'll keep you updated, no doubt about that.
