Hi and welcome to my Blog, my name is Paul Riddle and I live in south Leicestershire, UK. Back in August 2007 my quest began to locate as many local Little Owl territories as possible. The driving force was a reported decline in the uk numbers so I thought I would do my bit and conduct a study in my area. After 7 years and countless hours out in the field I have detected over 200 different sites. With a thirst for a greater understanding of the owls a more comprehensive monitoring and nest box programme then commenced. This also now includes monitoring the local and very sparse population of Barn Owls, please pop back occasionally and catch up with the life and times of my owls and any other wildlife that I come across. I hope you enjoy your visit!!!

Not much to offer!

This weekend didn't produce much for me in terms of publishable images, it wasn't for lack of trying though. I was short of time for loads of owling but when I did get out "on site" they didn't play ball. The SEO's were always distant and when they finally came close enough to photograph it was too dam dark!

Distant SEO in the failing light.

I also spent time at some of my Little Owl sites, this owl (below) was the only one prepared to offer some nice views, still struggled with the poor light though!

  1. I'd be absolutely made up with these Paul! That's a lovely SEO stare.

  2. Both look pretty good to me Paul!! - and at least you got some images. My recent forays have been photographically barren - but it has been a bit windy!
